One quick story about yesterday that I forgot before I get to today. So somewhere early on in the ride...maybe 30 miles in. We saw a red tail hawk carrying what appeared to be a frog as a bunch of smaller birds kept attacking the hawk presumably trying to get him to drop some food. Nature never disappoints.
On to today. What an absolute perfect day. Beautiful roads. Sunny partly cloudy skies. A decent breeze but when your team of 5 is rolling strong, its easy to share the workload.
Our route took us up past the aptly named High Point State Park in NJ. We crossed into NY and into the Hudson Valley. I've passed my here many times in I-95 on my way up north before and I always admired it. That said, the view from the highway going 65mph doesn't do it justice. Being able to ride the local roads were great. I didn't even realize we were going to pass right by the Survival of the Shawagunks race course. Its a really unique and cool race. I've never done it, but I have some close friends who have and they only have good things to say about it.
We had lunch in New Paltz, NY. Cool little town and my Ahi tuna wrap at Lola's Cafe was incredible. I can't recommend it enough. If fact I'm going to try and stop back in August when my family will be passing by on our return from Lake Placid. Laura is racing Ironman Lake Placid in late July but you probably knew that already.
After lunch we continued north. More beautiful roads and we eventually turned east by the Ashokan Reservoir. Very scenic.
A nice long descent, followed by a sharp steep climb (preparation for tomorrow I suppose), and we arrived at our hotel. Always a perk when there is a Stewarts Shop across the street. Milkshake dessert anyone.
